Plasticisers are vital in food contact materials to ensure flexibility, preventing brittleness and cracking in packaging such as plastic wrap or containers. They maintain seal integrity, preventing contamination and preserving food freshness. Moreover, plasticisers enhance processability, facilitating the manufacture of intricate food packaging designs. With their (plasticisers) non-toxic formulations, they ensure food safety by meeting regulatory standards, making them indispensable in ensuring the integrity and hygiene of food packaging materials. All Plasticisers used in food contact must be evaluated and approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Additives in food contact need to be listed in Annex I of Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.
